Lozenges are considered the ideal galenic form for treating infections of the upper respiratory tract. Be it against throat pains, inflammations of the oral and pharyngeal cavities or coughs, the active ingredients in lozenges are slowly released through sucking and so can be absorbed by the mucosa.
The individual components of the basic mass (sugar, water, glucose or, in the case of sugar-free lozenges, isomalt and water) are electronically weighed out and subsequently routed into the cooking system, in which, according to a formula, they are concentrated under vacuum conditions and at a temperature between 120°C and 160°C. The resulting mass is then transferred to an agitator and supplemented with aromas and pigments. Active phytopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical ingredients as well as essential oil mixtures are precisely dosed by a computer.
With our qualified and validated production plant we can ensure a precise dosing of active ingredients in a range of +/- 5%. Of course, we also fulfil the requirements for the distribution of homogeneous active ingredients, the so-called Uniformity of Content. Finally, lozenges are made in various forms from the recovered mixture, cooled and set. Even this process step is very important for a pharmaceutical product, since both the average weight and the homogeneity of the weight must conform to standards. The last step involves the packaging of lozenges into blister packs and folded boxes with consumer information leaflets. Alongside this packaging solution, which is common in the pharmaceutical industry, we can also package lozenges in individual packets, bags, flip top boxes or bars.
The entire production process is carried out according to the GMP guidelines and is certified by Swissmedic.
