As a galenic form, soft pastilles enjoy a visibly increasingly popularity in the pharmaceutical industry. They are very stimulating to the senses and are exceedingly well-suited to enrichment with active ingredients. This form of administration is chosen, above all, for throat pain medicines, sedatives and soporifics.
The individual components of the basic mass (sugar, water, glucose or, in the case of sugar-free pastilles, Sorbitol, water, lycasin) are electronically weighed out and subsequently routed into the cooking system, in which, according to a formula, they are concentrated under vacuum conditions and at a temperature between 120°C and 160°C. Depending on choice, gum arabic or gelatine is added as a condensing agent.
The resulting mass is then transferred to an agitator and supplemented with aromas and pigments.
Active phytopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical substances as well as essential oil mixtures are precisely dosed by a computer.
With our qualified and validated production plant we can ensure a precise dosing of active ingredients in a range of +/- 5%. Of course we also fulfil the requirements for the distribution of homogeneous active substances, the so-called Uniformity of Content.
Finally, from the recovered mixture soft pastilles are cast in corn flour into various forms. Pastilles made with gum arabic are subject to a drying time of 2 days in drying-rooms at around 60°C. In contrast, gelatine products dry at 20°C over 10 days.
Even this process step is extremely important for a pharmaceutical product, since both the average weight and the homogeneity of the weight must conform to standards.
Subsequently, the soft pastilles / jellies are packaged into blister packs and folded boxes with consumer information leaflets. Alongside this packaging solution, which is common in the pharmaceutical industry, we are also able to package tablets in crunch-wrap, bags, flip top boxes or plastic bottles.
